An Authentic Azawakh

It is better to be divided by truth than to be united in error.— Adrian Rodgers

Yufitri - Standing At 74 cm. (29")
This 20 months old male is a beautiful representative of the Azawakh whose ancestry originates from West Africa. He is registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and he is fully qualified to be shown. The AKC Azawakh Breed Standard dismisses the importance of color in one short sentence: "Color and markings are immaterial." As they should be.

Unfortunately, the Europeans, misguided by the French patrons of the breed, have a color prejudice against the white Azawakh and the issue of color has become a significant controversy in the European show scene, much to the detriment of the breed. Given the genetic paucity of this breed, it is a shame that an Azawakh with "too much" white is being eliminated from the gene pool altogether - in Europe, that is. In fact, it is more than a shame. It is sheer arrogance, and totally disrespectful of what is naturally in existence in this ancient breed for tens of thousands of years.

Fortunately though, several experienced Azawakh breeders (from Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia) who are knowledgeable, conscientious and brave enough to rise above this show dog nonsense, are continuing to protect and preserve the Azawakh as they have existed in West Africa over the centuries.
