African Wild Dog

The African Wild Dog, similar to the Azawakh indigenous to
the West African region, is also a long legged dog, standing taller (30 inches or 76 cm.) at the shoulder, although other articles indicate they are about the same height as the Azawakh. It is also called the Cape Hunting Dog or the Painted Dog. Its distribution is shown in the map to the right; it prefers the savannahs or open woodlands and can be found in Burkina Faso, COO for the Azawakh. With a population of 4,000 in existence, both ESA and IUCN classify it as an endangered predator. Read more here or here.
