Danish Dog Breed Ban

My sister in law is Danish and from her I have learned a lot about Denmark. Yes, Denmark is innovative, and way ahead of California in many things, but in this situation, it got a little too far ahead and fell off the cliff. The Danish Dog Act of 2010 is a breed ban of 13 dog breeds and their hybrids. These are the banned breeds:
American Pit Bull Terrier
Tosa Inu
American Staffordshire Terrier
Fila Brasiliero
Dogo Argentino
American Bull Dog
Boerboel
Kangal
Central Asian Ovtcharka
Caucasian Ovtcharka
Southern Russian Ovtcharka
Tornjak
Sarnplaninac
Since the enactment of this Danish Breed Ban Law, more than 1400 dogs were killed because they were either one of the above 13 breeds, or a mix from them. The most recent case is "Thor", who will be put to sleep on Monday, January 7, 2013.

Neshroon Idiiyat-es-Sahel

Neshroon is half sister to the sire, Azil, so that makes her a half aunt to the new litter at Idiiyat-es-Sahel, born yesterday to Batna. There are 5 beautiful taidit (females). Daoud Abdullah Abdullah named them: Nufoudah - after the Nufood desert in the Land of the Two Holy Places (Madinah and Makka ... also known as the Saudi Arabian Peninsula); Safqa - one of the most precious dam lines of the asil Arabian strains on the island of Bahrain;

Abaya - an Abaya is worn by modest muslim women...a covering; Kuhaylat - from the word 'khol' ...meaning the eyes are trimmed with dark pigment, like eyeliner, and Hamra - Arabic for very red. In the first image, Neshroon is standing in 'snow' - snow created by her opening up her pillow to look inside. She is curious as a cat - you can see her looking at herself in the next two images!

California: NO To AB 241 AB 241 Targets California Breeders Hearing scheduled on April 14th! April 9, 2009 California Assembly Member Nava has introduced AB 241, an increasingly familiar piece of legislation that would impose a cap of 50 on the number of intact dogs and cats that can be owned in California. It closely resembles anti-breeder legislation being pushed by HSUS in numerous other states so far this year where the centerpiece is typically an arbitrary number limit. AB 241 is scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday, April 14th in the Assembly Public Safety Committee at 9:00 a.m. in State Capitol Room 126. Please plan on attending this hearing in Sacramento, if possible, to express your opposition and ensure that the voices of responsible pet owners and breeders are heard!

We would also strongly encourage you to email your Assembly Member using the talking points at NAIA, urging them to oppose this unfair and costly bill should it come to a floor vote.

Here's a quick breakdown of AB 241: * Prohibits anyone who sells dogs or cats to the public or at wholesale from owning, possessing, controlling or otherwise having charge or custody of more than a combined total of 50 intact dogs and cats. Creates a new crime of misdemeanor. * Allows peace officers, humane officers or animal control officer upon receiving a complaint or on their own motion to investigate a number cap violation. They may inspect the books and premises in which dogs or cats are bred or maintained during daytime operating hours. * Requires owners to sterilize, sell, transfer or relinquish animals above the cap and empowers officers to seize animals of those in violation. * Exempts animal shelters, pet stores, veterinary facilities, and research institutions. NAIA opposes number limits because they are arbitrary, unenforceable, vulnerable to court challenges and have never been successful in addressing irresponsible breeding or negligent rescue operations. Furthermore, it is the stated intent of HSUS to initially set number limits high to achieve passage, and then go back in subsequent years and pass legislation to gradually ratchet them down. Your action now can prevent animal rights activists from setting this dangerous precedent in California.

CA Legislative: Red Alert

What was CA SB 250 Amended, Set for Hearing – Opposition Needed! AB 1634 that we killed last year has now morphed into SB 250. California Senate Bill 250 has been amended and set for a hearing in the Senate Local Government Committee for April 15th. We need all California fanciers, responsible dog owners and breeders, and clubs to write and oppose this legislation. Letters must be received by April 8 to be reflected on the committee analysis. SB 250’s primary intent is to penalize owners of intact animals and force sterilization of an at-large or unlicensed dog or cat on a first offense. This is an unreasonable standard as even a responsible owner can have a single incident where an animal is let out by a meter reader, neighbor or faulty gate. As amended on April 2; SB 250: ∙ Allows an unaltered license to be revoked if one citation is issued for a dog being at-large or stray. ∙ Requires a person selling, trading, or placing for adoption an unaltered animal to post the license number if the animal is older than four months, or the age required by the local licensing agency. (The prior version of the bill required a licensing number for any sale of an unaltered animal, and it was unclear how this would affect the sale of puppies and kittens younger than four months who were not required to be license.) ∙ Requires any unlicensed intact animal that is impounded to be sterilized, even on a first offense. ∙ Adds a new definition of “custodian” as follows; “Custodian” means any person who undertakes the personal care and control of a dog or cat, or any person who intentionally provides care, security, or sustenance for a dog or cat on the person’s property for any period exceeding 30 days. “Custodian” does not include a licensing agency.” Existing state law already requires owners of intact animals to pay a license fee that is at least double that to license a sterilized animal (Food and Agriculture Code Section 30804.5); and provides for enhanced and graduated fines for owners whose intact dogs are impounded (Food and Agriculture Code Section 30804.7). These statutes are sufficient to incentivize owners to sterilize their animals and to address animal control concerns with specific intact animals who are repeatedly impounded. April 1, 2009 It's no April Fool joke! We did good! Word just in from Martin Kralik (Lone Star Fox Terrier Club) who represented RPOA at the Committee Hearing in Austin today on HB 3180, the so-called "puppymill" bill, a misnomer if there ever was one. There was standing room only and it was mostly "our side." Thanks to all of you who took off work and went to Austin to stand up for your animals today! Four speakers were up first who supported the bill including Jay Sabatucci, HSUS state director and Robert "Skip" Trimble with Texas Humane Legislation Network. Skip Trimble set the lies in motion by saying 25% of dogs and cats in shelters are purebreds - that old HSUS line. Since RPOA has a statewide Rescue Program and we're in animal control facilities all the time we know that isn't true. Our side spoke for approximately two hours in opposition to the bill. Jeff Shaver, our commander-in-chief, was superb as usual and told the committee they were being lied to -- pointing the lies out individually. He hit 'em hard. Many of you couldn't go because of work but have been faxing, calling and emailing. So thanks to all of you. We WILL kill this bill. Any legislator that votes for it will commit political suicide in Texas. The bill is fundamentally flawed and can't be fixed with amendments. Keep telling them that!
